About the school: We are the only creative and performing arts middle school in MCPSS, and we offer a wide variety of arts programs at Dunbar. We have a dance company whose focus is modern inclusive dance instruction; we have beginning, intermediate, and advanced classes for art, chorus, band, strings, guitar, and drama. Additionally, we have elective options such as journalism and audio/visual classes for students who are interested in behind-the-scenes work. Our students perform at various venues throughout the school year.

Dunbar has won many awards over the years and the students on our boys' basketball team are the current district champions. We strive for excellence in all areas - academics, the arts, athletics, and relationships.

We believe in providing learning opportunities for students that are responsive, challenging, empowering, equitable, and engaging. We respect adolescents and value ongoing partnerships with families and our larger community. Our teachers are specifically prepared to teach middle school students and possess a deep understanding of their content areas. The faculty is committed to teaching that promotes high levels of student learning and achievement. Our teachers and school leaders collaborate on a daily basis to ensure that every student experiences success.
